My friend gave me a cutting from her office plant. I cut most of the brown/black rot off. But it still doesnt look great. Should I give up?

Advice from a novice: You have a node. Maybe keep the water shallower or prop in a vial-shaped thing where it can be suspended in water without too much exposure to the stem and leaf

I’ve seen simple node cuttings of stems become beautiful potted plants. It’s possible, but it also takes attention

As long as you treat it right, ( per first comment) I’d say you have a 99% chance.

It might. But getting a new leaf will take very long to almost impossible. Roots are almost a guarantee.

    The node is spent.

This isn’t a top cut. There is no active growth point. The plant would need to grow roots, survive, and eventually grow a new spike from the leaf.

You can speed this up by removing the leaf once the root systems are dense enough.

High chance of survival! Just stick her in water and wait
