Toddler knocked off my monstera and it broke at the base. How do I go about fixing it?

You don’t. Just put it in a shady place, water once if the soil is super dry and then ignore it for a while, because it WILL grow new leaves eventually. Monsteras do not give a fuck

Bury the aireal root, water and wait.

You can’t fix the toddler, I’m afraid. get a new one.

Send the toddler back for a full refund.

Many loving families would be willing to take on your toddler!

The broken stump will eventually regrow but it will be juvenile leaves for a bit. The rest of the plant you could cut into sections to propagate. Just make sure each section has some air roots and a leaf or two then put in water in a warm spot with plenty of light. Lots of monstera propagation videos out there.

    Can’t help with the toddler.

Put the broken leaf stalks into water after a day!

I dipped mine in rooting hormone, put them into glass cylinders, and change the water out every so often. They’ve all grown lots of roots, and I just keep them in water now. 😏

You can’t stick the pieces back together but they’ll both grow since they both have root systems. Maybe just prop the top back up if it’s at an awkward angle

oh just leave it alone and let it heal, the break isn’t bad, per se. it’ll grow back.

If this sub has taught me anything it’s that the safest route is to not have kids

if the broken off leaves/pieces have nodes, propagate them!

Keep the potted portions in the pot and make sure they’ve got some good light. They should grow leaves. They’ll likely require less water since they’re leafless, and the new leaves will be very juvenile. I’ve “beheaded” adult plants before and they grow back!

Edit after: refer to the top commenter about medium
light instead of strong light! They know more about growth patterns 🙂

    Sacrifice child to monstera God’s.

My cat knocked over my monstera and it snapped like this! I just took the snapped off piece and stuck it back in the dirt and it survived and is even making new leaves! The stump left behind will also make new leaves so up to you if you want in the same pot or not

I had one crushed by a box during a move, killed all of the leaves, and it came back.

That pot doesn’t look big enough to fit a toddler.

Jokes aside you might be able to root and propagate the broken plant but it will take a very long time.

Oh my goodness – I have toddlers and I dreamt of this happening to me the other night 😱
I’m so sorry it real life happened to you 😥

    Step one, make cuttings

    Step two, sell child

    Step three, root cuttings

Step four, you have many plants

Throw the toddler out of the house

I am also looking to give away my toddler.

Make sure you have a sharp knife. To fix it you need to cleanly cut off the top and let the stump dry. Then you need to put it in a jar of clean water and change the water regularly or it will rot.

It won’t do anything for the monstera, but now you have a toddler’s head in a jar and some closure for the fallen.

Leave it in the woods, with bread. Make sure the bread isn’t flakey/crusty, or they may follow the trail back home. If this happens, repeat from step one whilst omitting the bread.
