I have an ethnic client who insists I always leave them in her garden. They actually eat the berries. 👀

Nightshade. It will put out little, black, shiny berries. They’re safe to eat but I can’t say to their taste. Birds love them though.
You might be familiar with deadly nightshade. It’s not that one, but related.

Quote: I’m sure you’ll be surprised to know that Black Nightshade (Solanum nigrum) is an edible weed! It is commonly and mistakenly called ‘Deadly nightshade’ which is a completely different plant (although in the same solanum family) with the name Atropa bella-donna, deadly poisonous but extremely rare in NZ. I have eaten these blackberries and am still alive!
