You want about 3” minimum of root before putting in soil. I saw a post recently where the person said they were adding a scoop of soil to the water every few days to slowly acclimate the roots

I always wait until my roots have roots. Like this for example.
Make a little pit in the soil where you will put the cutting. Then instead of putting soil in the pit after you put the cutting in, you fill with perlite and spray it with water.

I’ve planted with roots that small, but lately I stick them directly into soil. Here’s one of my plants from propagations. I combined it with some global green pothos props so I could have plants at work.
