Currently working on my first planted vivarium. It's a 30x30x60cm Exo Terra Pro Paludarium which will house a tailless whip scorpion up top and some coromus vittatus millipedes in the bottom. They'll be separated by a ventilated insert which will sit right where the door opens – you can see the shelf at the back it will sit on. The bottom section will pretty much just be substrate for the millis with some leaves and scattered wood decor.

The top section has 2 plant pots on the walls and the shelf the divider will sit on is angled forming a trough for substrate, partially to help keep humidity levels up in the amblypygid section but also to allow for a plant.

Here's where it gets tricky. Because both animals are from roughly the same region (central and southern Africa) I got the idea into my head to plant using African plants only. This has proved to be really hard – I was surprised there's so few African terrarium plants out there.

So far I have Peperomia tetraphylla which will go on the planter top left, behind the branch, an Aerangis rhodosticta which will go in the planter on the right, and a Selaginella kraussiana which will go in the trough down the bottom. I'm also pretty sure Africa gets varieties of sphagnum so I'm going to plop live sphagnum all over the background.

I've been hoping to find something like Ficus to go creeping across the back wall and help add a bit more interest, but I'm just not finding anything like it from Africa. Anyone have any suggestions for any more good plants I could add that are from the right place?

Thanks!

Where did you get the carbonized Cork chunks?

Maybe Begonia prismatocarpa for a low growing filler species

Ledebouria socialis (Silver squill) does well in my whites tree frog and gargoyle gecko tanks. I just put it in dryer ateas and it thrives.

Begonias microsperma and prismatacarpa come to mind. Also Mitriostigma axillare and Anubias are good choices. If the enclosure doesent get too wet African Violets are very nice
