Oh boy. After the storm. But the truth is it’s this is the first storm. We have met many many storms coming right now. Now that all fell over. That was an interesting bang last night. I had this fountain that I had taken and moved and I set it on the table here. Would not have thought about that. And as it filled with water, oh my goodness, the rain. I think we got close to four inches. Gary said here it must have gotten full of water. That’s a dish pan. And it started to slip. See how watery this is? Wet. It probably with the not There wasn’t a lot of wind, but the rain it started to slip. It got to the edge and the whole thing went over. [Music] So, I’m going to get to that soon. What I’m doing right now is evaluating what’s here and what I need to get rid of. Now, let’s step back. I look around on this deck right now and it is a mess. I agree. Now, I just trimmed this, but everything on this deck, as much as it looks like a mess, is my new soil. See all the flowers that have died back? And there’s a lot of flower seeds on there. I don’t know if I’ll save them all because there’s literally flowers coming up everywhere. I mean, literally hundreds. All that is soil. And what I’m starting to do, let’s walk over here as I evaluate before the next storm comes in, which is probably tomorrow. I’m going to start to trim everything back and I’m going to fill containers up. So, when I start to go through the flower pots and fill up the pots with soil or whatever I’m going to put in there, I can put that on the bottom and that will break down as the flowers on the top grow. So, everything that you see brown, I don’t want to trip on any of these buckets. All that over there, this is marolds, I believe. This is all soil. This is going to turn into my compost for my flowers, and they’re going to love it. Look, I got nersiums back there. Oh, my pepper died back. You know what? I didn’t water that on a few days when we had the 90° and I lost a lot. But this is all seeds. Now, will they all grow? I don’t know. If they didn’t finish, they won’t grow. But that’s okay. I can compost that because I’ve got a lot of seedlings coming up everywhere. Now, here, I believe this is mixed with lettuce cuz there was a lettuce growing in there. Let’s see what’s under here. Oh my goodness. Earthworms. come to the top a lot of times in the rain. Sometimes you take a walk outside and you’ll find earthworms on the ground. They were in a puddle or someplace that was too much water and then they will go ahead and come to the surface. So that’s what they’re doing there. They’re probably in these pots. They will gravitate up during bad raintorms. So that’s really good. So I’ve got a lot of earthworms still in there. And I’m going to make a lot of totes that are worm farms for me this year. Why? Cuz I have too much compost is the main reason. And then here, I’ll continue to go through and decide, do I really want to save these seeds? And if not, I’ll throw them somewhere. I’ll find them later. So, I’m going to go through all this. But again, this is gold. Even the old tomato steaks or, you know, stems. All this. That’s just a stick there. Uh-oh. We’ve got to get our succulents out of that fairly quick. I actually know how I’m going to set these up. I’ll see if I can get to them before the storm. I’ve been setting them up in my pumpkins and it’s working fantastic. These are being neglected. Why? Cuz I don’t have time. I bought them and it’s like, oh, there’s just no time for everything. All right, I’ll get to that later. And I’ll see if there’s any more pieces there. But I’m going to go through and get a lot of the brown out and put them in pots. Any type of pot. I can even fill up dish pans. And then from there, I can spot through what’s here already. like there’s nothing in here growing so no seeds got in there. Put a bunch of these brown leaves on the top. Then put some soil on top. It will all break down. I’m going to get rid of this tool. I’m not using this right now. And then all the new seeds will grow. Same thing here. Freshen this up. Oh, look. There’s walking onions. I didn’t even realize I had onions growing here. All right. We’ll take care of that later. So, that’s what’s going on here. Now, how many storms we’re going to get? I don’t know. But it’s going to be quite a few, which is very unusual for us because I think we’ve got almost as much rain as we should have. And that’s good. We need the rain as long as it doesn’t cause landslides. I mean, even last year there were a lot of landslides across from us. Small ones. The hillsides would just slide down. They took the tarps down, so the ground must be a little bit more stable. But we’ll see if they start tarping again. But all in all, look how green. Oh, a lot of people don’t like that here. I can see it across the hill. that brings in weeds and then right away the fire departments come out and tell you got to go ahead and clear it all. It creates a lot of work and then they’ve got to hire people a lot of these places out here and then the other ones go through and they sprayed weed killer out there and that creates a big problem. Let me tell you something. We have the most natural area here for us. This is why we have all these birds coming. This is why we’ve got 60 species of small birds and then we’ve got lizards and different reptiles and different animals that come through here because we’re not toxic here. Anytime you spray the soil, as you just saw, my soil in these totes are alive. I don’t know what this is lately. It’s a new thing. Spray your soil. Put pesticides in there. Get rid of everything. You do that and you’re going to end up not having a real live garden. Wouldn’t you rather have a live garden? Yes. It doesn’t look so alive right now. But this is my problem. I neglected it. I let all the flowers get to their size full potential. And I didn’t go through and dead head. Didn’t take out the old plants. Oh, look. This will grow. Zenas. See, these are seeds. Set that there and do something with it later. This is me because I’ve got all the other gardens to take care of. Oh, my avocado trees are going to be very happy, which is good with all this rain. But the point is, we want our soil alive. I do. I want to bring in the warblers that come and look for little insects. That’s what this is all about. That’s why that red tote was made. I made that to create insects to break down all the food particles or plant particles I put in there, but also to feed, you know, I just saw something to go ahead and feed the birds around here. They need food. So, it’s a win-win. Okay, I didn’t see this. That’s cuz a plant got on top. Look, I still I still have a pepper plant full of peppers. Okay, we really need to cater to that. That’s beautiful orange peppers in there. So, I’m going to clean that up and stake that up and take care of it. And then that is pot mirror gold in here growing really nice. I’ve got some south thistle for the birds that were there. Look at the walking onions I stuck in here. Gorgeous mint nersiums. I showed you that already. This is lemon balm growing. Very happy. I’m going to leave the lemon bomb. It has set root in this tote, but you saw what’s in there with all those worms. So, it’s going to be one happy feeder, and it will be feeding on all the leftovers from the worms. And just leave that for the winter. It’s protected with the glass. So, it’s not getting cold wind on it. And then I’ll trim back the garlic chives. These are seeds. I don’t care if they grow. They grow everywhere. I mean, on the ground, in pots, in any container. So, I’m going to leave all that, but I’m going to clean this up. I know I told you that months ago, and then I never came back because I’ve been working all over the garden, but this is a good place to come out in the winter and little by little try to clean it all up. I’ll tell you what’s been the best thing to buy. I don’t know what she’s barking about. This was a great investment. I bought this what in the spring. It just keeps going and going and I have to dead head it and I see it needs a lot of cleaning inside. It’s trying to come from the middle. But this is a blanket flower, but this is cultivated differently. The one that I’ve got growing in the Burgard grows tall. This does not. It’s a very compact plant. So, they designed that one to grow in a certain fashion, but it just keeps coming back. I almost killed it by not watering it one day. It got really hot and then it got dry. This is heat tolerant, but it and sometimes they tell you it’s drought tolerant, but it’s not. And sometimes I call it drought tolerant. The thing is it loves the heat. It can stand out here 110 degrees and take it as long as this pot still has water. Worst comes the worst, you can always on the hottest days, which I should do, is sit it in a tray with a teeny bit of water. So it will keep sucking it up and it’ll keep going. But I’m going to clean this up. And then there, you saw all those. Those are the dish pans I put out with flowers. That’s worked wonderful. Well, the hummingbirds come in and they feed as you can see right there. They’re feeding on the hummingbird feeders, but they’re feeding on the flowers as well. I got kofias growing there, firecracker plant, pop maragold, regular maragold growing. I’ve got a zenas. I’ve got a little bit of everything growing through there. And I’ve even got geraniums, though they don’t feed a lot on geraniums. They will look for little insects. But it’s worked out really, really nice to have the plants and the flowers. I want to have the flowers lower as spring comes in so I can train some of them to stay low, but I think I’ll go with zenas that are more well maybe trim back a little bit or maybe put some patunias or something else back there. I’ve got my pumpkin and my bird feeders there. The oranges. Oh, they’re going to love all this rain. That is just beautiful. It’s got canas down there for the hummingbirds as well we planted. So, I still go through gallons and gallons of food a day. We’ll see what happens in the spring when they start moving around. But we have so many flowers now that I’ve noticed a difference because they’ll be foraging, especially when the orange trees get their blossoms and stuff. They’ll forage on that and I’ll save a little bit on the sugar water that I make. The nectar, homemade nectar, quarter of a cup of white granulated sugar and one cup of water. They’ll save a little I’ll save a little bit on that because what they’re doing is they’re feeding more on flowers and that’s what you want them to do. see our hillsides though it’s beautiful right now and some people landscape just gorgeous but there it’s not it’s got to be cleared at a certain time of the year because of fires and that’s as you know the bad fires that went through in January still all that barren land and they can’t build and nobody’s coming in the plant or landscape or put back even the wild flowers if if something grows on the land that got burned out they want them to still clear it so there’s a lot of native of flowers that are not coming back. So, what we do is we help them by putting out nectar because there’s a lot of birds, otherwise they perish. So, anyways, let’s see if I can keep my word. Well, no promises. And see if I can get through here and trim a lot of this down and maybe even before I do any major planting what it looks like after it’s been trimmed. But right now, oh, it’s a disaster. And I don’t think my gazebo top’s going to come back anymore. I may have to put something else up there. It’s shredded. It’s old. It’s been a couple years old. It’s very sad that a lot of these things we buy are made to be disposable. Very hard to get a new top that will fit exactly, though. I may try or maybe Gary will put a top on for me. But a lot of this stuff you buy is made disposable. And one last thing to show you, these racks, I painted the one green. Look how nice that is. I can hang plants off of that. These are clothes racks from Walmart. They’re like 10 bucks a piece. If they made these, let me zoom out a little bit. If they made them for plants, it cost you $40 to $50 because they know certain groups of people will spend more money. People that want to just hang up clothes out of the dryer are not going to spend that much. So, they were selling them for $8 to $10. But if you’re going to hang your good plants, well, they can sell them for 40. I’ll put the link to that uh hopefully underneath this video because those have been fantastic. I have hung all kinds of plants on that bird feeders. I’ve got them in the bird garden. I’ve got a whole bunch of them. And don’t worry, like the white one I put back there that rusted out. That’s the perfect time to paint it. You get a metal paint, get a small can and go ahead and paint it. And it really clings on because it’s not shiny anymore. And that’s when I painted the green one. Could use a little bit more painting, but I did a quick coat on that. And it’s really nice to hang these things. Look at this. You saw me buy those. I love these. These are like two bucks a piece and I’m growing lettuce in there. And I had a big lettuce there. I took that out and I’ll put some more lettuce in there. But no insects get to it. And I can just hang them. And I can hang them on those racks there that are made for hanging your laundry after it comes out of the dryer. All right. Well, we’re going to go. I’ve got to take care of these. These are uh plants that I propagated and took care of. So, I’ve got some geraniums. Look at this. I think I’ve got lettuce growing in here. This is just a house plant, airplane spider plant. But these are firec cracker plants that I propagated. They’re doing really well. They need a big prop. Maybe in the spring I’ll put them in something bigger. And then this is just peline and more geraniums. So they’re doing good. I got to clean all this up. But all in all, here’s a firecracker plant. Well, there’s one there with the red flowers on it. That’s the firecracker plant. And then here’s another one. It was It all started with a little piece that I got at the nursery or I actually got it I think at Home Depot and I took it home, stuck it in soil and grew it. So this is another one. This is garlic chives. I may end up pulling that out. It might This was a flower that should come out. But that’s it. So I’ve got them growing all over all from one little free piece. And now I’ve got that plant. I’ve got the super big one. I think there’s one more there. And then I’ve got the ones by the door that are growing that are propagated and I want to get them out in the garden. So, I’m going to get back to work, do a couple more things around here before it starts to rain again cuz it just looks like it’s going to be Look at that across the sky. Oh, you can see it’s raining. Let’s walk over here real quick. My dad taught me that when I was a really little girl. Used to say, “See that it’s raining. Let’s look. I don’t know if you’ll be able to see it, but you’ll see clouds and then all of a sudden you see this haze go down.” He’d say that’s where it’s raining. [Music] That is They’re getting a good downpour there. So, I want to get this done a little bit. Go get something to eat. And I wanted to tell you that it poured last night. Like I said, I think last night we got over 2 inches of rain just in the night. I think we’re going to hit 5 in probably. But the thing is, we’re not done. So, I want came out here to clean up a little bit, get the stuff that went falling, and kind of look at this place and think of, wow, there’s a lot of work here that needs to be done, right, Zoe? Lots of work. Not counting the rest of the garden, which I’m working on here and there. So, everybody have a wonderful day. Try to stay warm. We’re going to get into the 40s this week. We’ve been 50s at night, but they say we’re going to drop to the 40s. So, we’re going to cool down. And I’m going to go through a lot of this and see what needs to be like, you know, salvageable and what needs to be composted and turned into free soil. And I’m going to be doing a lot of lettuce this year because the house finches, they eat a little bit of the seed, but the big one is the goldfinches and they absolutely love lettuce seeds. So, I’m going to let this I should just put this up here. Let that go to seed. The bees will come or the little hoverflies and they’ll pollinate it and then the goldfinches will come in and feed. I want to get more lettuce growing for them. So, with that, have a wonderful day. And don’t forget to eat what you grow, right, Zoe? Bye-bye. Look, I eat this. It’s a mushroom plant. And it’s in a milk container. And I can carry it in the house if I wanted to. I’m training it to go up through here. And this I’ll trim back. And this tastes really good. Yes, a mushroom plant. Bye-bye.

Hello miss Robbie and Mr Gary wow what a storm still stay safe I would love to have your Deck I love your plantation ❤ hello Zoe and other pup pup ❤
Dearest Robbie be kind to yourself 🫶🏻😍❤️ You work very hard!! You truly are amazing!! I learn from you so much!! 🦋🦋🦋 Much love 💕 & blessings 🙌🏻
It doesn't look like a mess to me. It looks fascinating and full of life and discoveries!!! Love your ventures and projects!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Robbie, what is the pipe you have for hanging the hummingbird feeders off of above your dish.pan flower garden on your deck? I would like to build one ofbthose pipe structures from which I could hang my feeders, too. Thank you.
I pray that you and yours are safe durng these bad storms. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Wow – that was some storm! Yes, you have a massive cleanup ahead of you, but that's to be expected after a storm like that. I'm sure you'll create it even better than ever. You've done wonders with your gardens there. I don't see how you've had time to do even half of all you've accomplished.
I have a small porch that we do sit out on and I’ve noticed it was getting kind of cluttered. I have a lot of plants on my porch as well. Mine are peppers and a few flowers. I’m in Houston so we haven’t got the rain yet. It’s still been dry, but I hear the rain is coming. I’ve been in Stillwater by hand all my plants in my backyard. It’s small, but we redesigned it to where I have everything like in outer line, you know against the house against the fence and made the inside more open. I just had a table built so the kids can come and we would barbecue and I have seating and everything back there just had to redesign it because gardening got away from me and I had plants all over the place and it was a big mess you couldn’t even walk in my backyard because it was just so many so now we were designed it and I’m still got one more spot to redesign and then that’ll be it. I will not bring any more pots and I will just work with what I have and I have a lot. It’s a lot of work, but I do enjoy it but once I get it redesigned in a little bit better to maintain that will be it. I won’t need any more beds. I won’t need any more pots Just work on my soil that I already have.
Like he said eat grow my eggplants are booming right now. I mean I have a tree that almost looks like a Christmas tree with so many eggplants on it and it’s big. I have friends come over this weekend. I haven’t had company in so long and we all enjoyed the backyard and everybody took about three or four eggplants and the tree still got so many more.
I think it’s a Rosa Blanca. I grew from save from in my gardener very prolific.
I grown lemon balm and two different areas and I grew seed and it is so prolific where I’m at and I gave all my friends a little bunches of lemon balm. I need to pull some to propagate for myself in another area. I think I work on that this morning.
Why would we judge you? We can’t fight Mother Nature, just work with her. lol. I’m in NW AZ, high desert. We’re now getting what came over you. Of course, weather predictions never seem to come true here. Weeks ago there was a storm over AZ where the weather channels made it sound like everyone was going to drown or slide somewhere. I got maybe 10 drops of rain. lol. Very frustrating.
I still think its beautiful. Zoe so funnee inspecting everything. When i know its gonna rain alot, i slide my aloes and such under a table. Seems to help them from getting wayerlogged.
Waterlogged. Lol
Maybe rent some goats to eat the underbrush??
My garden is much messier than yours😂
Hoping you don't get what we had 2 weeks ago in Florida, 18 inches in 6 hours, oh the flooding and wash outs and plants in shock 😢
So thankful you weathered the storm. It's so good to hear from you. You will get the garden back in shape very soon. I am building soil in my containers for next year. Love to you, Gary and Zoe. Stay safe.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just bought the umbrellas from Walmart. They shipped out today. I can't wait to get them. I love your tour. Be safe! I know California needs rain. And I remember living in S Cali the rain we used to get. But Cali doesn't need the floods. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Sorry the storm has made you such a mess but it has given you a new beginning have to tell you one of your best short videos was the mocking birds with the great choice of music 😂😮
Yes, I heard that from my parents about how to tell it is raining in the distance 😊
