Popular West Yorkshire centre has plants, gifts, tools, two cafes and much more
You could easily spend an afternoon wandering around Gordon Rigg Garden Centre and I am told that people do just that.
The “garden, home and leisure” centre at Walsden, Todmorden, is so large and sprawling that there’s a handy map available from the customer service desk for confused shoppers.
“Yes, it can be disorientating,” a shop assistant confessed when I admitted being a bit lost. I was looking for the pets and aquatics section and was about “four rooms and a corridor” away and heading in the wrong direction.
The map has more than 20 separate locations, including a tea room, and rooms for giftware, shrubs, seedlings, climbers, tools, DIY gear, houseplants, pots, compost, as well as lots of “seasonal” items. No wonder coach trips are laid on and the car parks are so busy.
There’s also a well-stocked farm shop with everything from meat pies to bottled beers.

And they really go to town on the seasonal stuff at Christmas. There’s everything from baubles to Christmas trees, and plenty of gift ideas. We spent over £20 on various items including mince pies, Christmas tree decorations, dates, and some cacti. There’s a heck of a lot to choose from.
There’s also a lovely cafe which is often very busy with families, mums and tots, couples, and pensioners. On the other side of the road there’s a mill shop and a second cafe. There are plenty of car parking spaces, although it can get a bit hectic during Christmas fiar events.
Customers seem to love the place, particularly in the run up to Christmas. One online reviewer wrote: “Lovely garden centre and very big. Definitely call again loved it. So much to see and great prices, could have bought loads.”
On Google, the garden centre has over 1,500 reviews and an average rating of 4.5/5. For me, the garden centre is a definite 5/5.
