Seeing this at petsmart. Just starting out with terrariums/vivariums and want to use this for plants and isopods. Thoughts? Seems like a pretty good price

    are you kidding?

the water’s just gonna go EVERYWHERE.

I had that. It was fine for some millipedes I had! I had a drainage layer and everything.

I have no idea what the other commenter is talking about but this is fine for plants and isopods.

It is water tight according to FAQs on petsmart. The reviews looks great and price is great as well

That’s a good deal. I have 3 isopod tanks using those. You can cover the top if you need more humidity. I lay a Barrina T5 growlight led bar on top for plants. I slope the soil so it’s deeper in the back.

  5. I have one and love it. Hard to beat $30. Some micro geckos or juvenile frogs could thrive in there.

Other people are being very kind and beating around the bush when saying that they use them for small invertebrates, and one person suggested micro-lizards and frogs, but I want to be very explicit about this – *10 gallons is going to be too small for just about any full grown vertebrate, especially if you’re going to house more than one.*

Plenty of resources will tell you the bare minimum size that an animal can be housed in, but almost universally, they will do better in set-ups that are significantly larger than the bare minimum.

Another thing to consider – this tank doesn’t really prioritize height or length, so it’s not optimal for primarily arboreal species, or for primarily terrestrial species. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it’s a decent balance, it just is something to consider based on what you want to house in it.

Also, if you plan on doing a bioactive layout, especially if you do a great foam background (or any other type of 3d background/sides), that is all going to reduce usable space in the terrarium, significantly reducing the living space.

If you are getting this to experiment and practice with, and are just looking to house some small invertebrates, then this tank will be great, and is a good deal. But if you’re hoping to house some sort of vertebrate (even smaller ones), please consider just going with a larger terrarium.

  7. I have this tank and I love it. It’s well constructed, good glass, sturdy frame and secure top. You may want to add some coverage on the mesh to maintain humidity for isopods species.
