This is my starter plant set up a heat mat and this glass display case. I have have every single corm ive attempted to grow turn to mush. Recently after several months of thriving my black velvet got root rot and died. Then all of the corms died. I water the perlite once a week then just spray a little water around the sides of the tiny pots once its dried out. Alocasias have become my favorite type of plant and im growing discouraged.

** what can I do differently when trying to sprout corms? How often should I be watering them?
i like to use the puddle method! i have good luck with it and its a lot less work 🙂 i put my corms into a sealed cup or jar with a teeny bit of water and let them do their thing, i honestly forgot about them for months and they’re doing just fine

There’s no right answer for how often you should be watering them. It depends too much on your conditions.
I would recommend putting them in a sealed container that’s moist but not wet, and then just not touching it. I have mine in a takeout container half-full of sphagnum moss and sealed, and I literally never need to water it because it doesn’t dry out. I have never lost a corm doing this. You want the conditions to be consistent, and it seems like yours aren’t if your corms keep drying out and needing to be watered.
The heat mat may also be providing too much heat. Corms don’t like to get cold, but you might be cooking them in there.
Same here. It’s so frustrating.
