This was put in by a former owner, I suspect 5+ years ago. It was covered in English Ivy, which I tore out in spring, and about 6 inches of soil and mulch. I left it alone for the season and now it has mostly turf grass with roots embedded right in the fabric. The ground beneath is so hard I can barely make a dent with my finger. It tears to shreds if I pull on it before clearing every bit of earth off the top. Unhealthy, ineffective, and a pain in the butt. Don’t do it!!

One of my biggest soapboxes as a longtime landscaper and designer. That stuff is a boondoggle.
Recently ripped out most of the weed barrier in my beds. The good quality kind was easy to pull out but the cheap junk is so thin it just rips into a million pieces
