Monty Don fans have shared words of support with the gardening legend after he recently suffered a “major flood” at his home. In video footage and a series of snaps shared on his Instagram page this month, Monty showed the shocking impact of flooding at the Herefordshire property that he shares with his wife, Sarah, and two dogs, Patti and Ned.

His home also features the sprawling Longmeadow garden, which fans will recognise from episodes of BBC Gardeners’ World. In one post, Monty shared a photo of the water encroaching on an area of his garden, with Ned looking on.

Monty, who once revealed what he views as the “bane” of his life, captioned it: “A little wet in the garden this morning after yesterday’s storm that dropped a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.”

He went on to share a striking photo showing the floodwaters engulfing the land and surrounding the trunk of a large tree.

He wrote: “There has been really bad flooding in this part of the country and homes and businesses have suffered very badly, so we are lucky that it is just the fields and garden that is wet here.”

In another, Monty described the “transformative beauty” of floods, noting how they’re “used to floods” due to their proximity to a river and water meadows.

Despite this, in a more light-hearted post, Monty also shared a video of Ned cavorting through the floodwater in an effort to retrieve his ball, noting that the “small matter of a major flood” wouldn’t stop him in his quest.

Meanwhile, his followers took to the comments to share words of support with the green-fingered presenter. One said: “Monty, I feel for you and your surrounding neighbours! Take care.”

Another added: “OMG! So sad for you! The leaves are still hanging on the trees and their roots are standing in the water… hope you and your dogs are well!”

It wouldn’t be the first time that Monty has experienced flooding, however. He explained in January that they “live on a flood plain”, meaning it has “always been part of life there”, reports Hello!, but has “definitely got worse”.

In January last year, Monty shared further insights into the local flooding. He said: “It has barely stopped raining for the past three months, and as I write this the fields as far as the eye can see are underwater, as are sections of the garden.”

He added: “Mostly all this rain just means mud, slippery paths and the frustration of not being able to get on with much work in the garden without making a terrible mess.”

Monty and Sarah purchased the property in October 1991 and reportedly spent a decade restoring it, a task that Monty described to The English Home as a “privilege and joy”.
