After commenting on a post in the pothos subreddit a few days ago that epipremnums can resprout new leaves on older sections of vine, I was told by the mod I was spreading misinformation and banned for a week.
This video was taken on 11/15 to try and show the mod what I was talking about. I'm going to post a photo just taken today of the same thing which is clearly a new leaf on old vine.
What gives? Is this really impossible? Is my plant a mutant?

Photo of same leaf today.
My pothos vines do exactly that all the time.

Obviously that moderator hasn’t researched enough information. If the plant doesn’t feel like it can grow from the end it will grow from a node in the middle on the vine somewhere.
Aren’t the mods in r/pothos notoriously psycho?
I wonder if it was the same mod that went on a tirade about coco coir poles. They swore up and down that your pothos won’t climb anything other than true moss and that coco coir poles don’t work. When people shared photos of their climbing pothos, the mod swore it didn’t count because the leaves weren’t sizing up (or not sizing up ENOUGH for the mod to back down on their argument). I thought it was all pretty ridiculous.
I like this sub a lot more haha
Maybe it is a commutation error.
You cannot grow new leaves on a bare pothos.
What you’ve done is activated a new growth point on a node. So yes it is a new leaf technically, it is growing a new vine from the point.
I hate when a mod is ignorant and gets to do the 7 day ban without a conversation. I usually will leave that sub permanently. Judge, juror and executioner (even if for only 7 days) indiscriminately ticks me off. I’ll probably be banned for saying this now 🙄
OP you’re fixing for a new ban now
Ceast and desist
lol just joking. I have no idea if you’re right or not. None of my pothos have ever reformed a previously dead vine, but I’m assuming if you have a few healthy nodes or two it might be able to occur.
Sounds like a *really* dumb reason to get banned to me. Especially considering you have videos lol… thanks for the heads up to avoid that sub!
What I think is actually happening here is a node became active and what you described as a new leaf is actually a full new vine (which isn’t typical considering they’re apical dominant).
The fun part: you’re still technically right, cause new vine growth starts with a new leaf lol…
Sorry this happened to you. You would think the mod would open this up as a question of experience among the sub.
I read that somewheres too and I haven’t had it happen, i dont think, on any of mine. Obviously its super cool that it is possible and that mod is crazy for banning you

Mine grew a 12 ft vine I strung around the room before growing a new sprout from the turn point. It’s like it wanted to go around the other way too, to complete the perimeter faster. 💕
Yeah mine do that too
one of the plant subs i post and comment on frequently got all new mods a few months ago and out of nowhere i got a permanent ban notification. i sent the mods a message asking what i had done, the ban was then changed to 3 days then entirely removed, but i was blocked from messaging mods for 7 days – all of this happening in the span of about 30 minutes.
the new mods had a welcome post so i commented on it asking what happened (i genuinely thought it was a mistake) because i had never done anything except post plant pictures, identify plants and give care advice and one of the mods said they’d “look into it” and then a few minutes later replied that another mod had found some “nasty comments” from me a few months ago.
i looked through my entire history in that sub and nothing even remotely approaching “nasty comments” were ever posted by myself. for a couple of months i just didnt post or comment in that sub at all (despite it being one of my favourite subs) and now i will occasionally comment but it’s not the same.
i mean it’s a PLANT sub what kind of “nasty comments” could i be posting? LOL
bad mods suck the joy out of reddit.
Oh yeah mine is doing that right now!
I’m not going to take a photo of video, but I have a long pothos in my bedroom with several points of regrowth. It’s very bizarre to suggest otherwise.
I have a pothos that is doing this. I was shocked when I first noticed and thought I must be imagining it, but sure enough after a week or so there was a leaf where previously it was just a little nub. It’s growing up and indoor wall and the leaves are HUGE. I got new grow lights so I’m working on the variegation getting a bit stronger but the longest vine must be close to 30 feet by now and has new leaves growing at random sections. It’s great
Mine have done this. I will say I was pretty surprised when I first saw it! But it definitely happens
I have vines that have done that!

No I have tons. That mod is wrong. You don’t even need to cut the growth tip.

This is in my family room this is a marble queen Pothos.
You are correct. I’ve done it myself with my older plant. Tf they talking about misinformation? If there’s a node and it’s not damaged the cells still know what to do…
You are not the incorrect person here. They can, and will, resprout leaves on older vines.
imagine being such a bitch over information about plants of all things
if i dont edit this post within a day, you’ll know what happened to me lmfaooooo
Its not impossible, mine have also done this lol
My photos re grows new leaves all the time
I got my first pothos 10 months ago. It grew so nicely, but last couple of weeks some of its leaves at the base were yellowing. Just this morning I sadly removed all of them, maybe 7 or 8. I think I might be doing something wrong. Anyway, finding out that leaves grow again made me feel better. So so much better. I also need to learn more.
Anyway, sorry for the off toppic. And thank you so much for letting me accidentally learn something new.
Edit: spelling
Mine have done this as well but only when I put them outside on my shaded balcony for more sun + humidity and give them fertilizer. It isnt just a new leaf but it is a whole new vine.
Of course they can report on old vines. They have dormant buds in each node, which is why cutting them up in sections can yield new plants.
Silly pothos mod who probably doesn’t even grow them!
What fertilizer do you use?
