Parents passed and trying to sort things out. I have no idea what this thing is, if it’s dormant or neglected. Etc. it is potted in a soil bag. Might not be native. Father was a horticulturalist so there is a lot of plants here and I know most. This one eludes me.

Thanks all.

    It’s a papaya tree yay 😀

if you take care of it in a year or so, you’ll have fruit!

Papaya is one of the fastest producing plants 🪴

    that is, if it’s hermaphrodite

it won’t work if it’s male or female without having another opposite gender tree

if it was from a nursery, there’s an 80% chance it produces

Plant them on the ground and they’ll flourish. It’s like pinapple in a pot, the biggest you’ll get is baseball sized fruit.

  3. The fruit needs to be protected from flies, they lay eggs in the fruit and when you bring it inside they start erupting on your counter. I have net bags on some of mine now. I had no idea the fruit needed nets. Orlando.
