Growing 99% of Our Vegetables In Containers||What’s Growing in our garden!

We grow almost all our fresh produce in our backyard container garden here in Jamaica 🇯🇲.

We encourage and inspire others to grow their own food and become more self sufficient. Our goal is to grow 100% of our vegetables and fruits Organically right here at home 🏡

We also raise meat chickens, laying chickens and rabbits. These animals helps us to establish a Permaculture style gardening that has been incredibly successful.

We use mainly used/recycled ♻️ materials/containers to grow a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetables.

We try to be as self sufficient as possible with the foods that we can grow ourselves and encourage you to do so too. Grow your own food.

Guys, the rain is getting serious. The wind. It has been raining, but the wind getting serious. So, guess what? I did not want to do this, but we have no choice but to cut off the leaves off the back and the planting because we’re going to leave. Welcome back to the channel, guys. We’re still feeling a little bit of the tail end of Hurricane Melissa. It’s the day after. Today is the 29th of October. Hurricane Melissa passed last night over Jamaica and some of Jamaica was severely impacted by hurricane winds and rains. My name is Mari if you’re new here and this is our container garden in which we grow most of the fresh produce that we eat. We depend on this garden for a lot of our food, guys. and a section of the garden was severely impacted by the hurricane. However, I am aware that the western section of the country and northern sections were severely impacted. People lost their homes, their farms. I spoke to my brother, he lives and farm in St. Elizabeth and he said, “We’re going to starve this Christmas because everything is flat.” That’s where we get most of our fresh vegetables for market and supermarket. And it was bad. It was terrible on that um side of the country. So, we’re still grateful that um the garden was paired somewhat some parts of the garden. Um I’m going to show you when the I got some footage of when it was not so bad yet. I’ll insert here and then I’ll show you what what is left of the garden and why I’m still grateful. All right, so take a look guys and then come back so I can take you around guys. Oh my word. The water is coming from the ocean side. So the tide extremely high. I don’t see it moving towards the houses yet. So those homes look safe for now. It’s about 300 p.m. on the 28th of October. Oops. That’s what it is looking like. It is 5:45 October 28. I’m inside. I’m trying to get a little bit of what is going on for you guys. It looks like 8:00 p.m. but it is just 5:45. And that is what it is looking like outside. It is crazy. It looks turn on the light. No rain. Well, we get rain as soon as the wind eases up. We get some rain. I look like night. Maybe it’s not 6:00 p.m. dark, guys. Let me show you. Look at that. Like midnight. This is the section of the garden that got hit the worst. This is my new little food forest, guys. So, all of my bananas, even though I had removed some of the leaves, they still got a little battered. But I am so happy that I took off the leaves because if I did not, the entire container would have containers, they would have um tilt over with the weight of the leaves. So, I’m grateful for that. Still raining. As you can see, I am currently sheltering under my umbrella. It is still raining with still getting a little bit of wind cuz those papayas guys, they they’re still standing and the fruits some of the fruits are still hanging on. So we’re grateful my planting there is still standing. The fence. It is amazing how that avocado tree did not lose any branch at all. Isn’t that amazing? I had taken down last minute I had taken down all of the cabbages and stuff off of here guys. So for those of you said to take them down, I did. It’s so windy out here still. I did. So I save those. They’re down underneath there. Still raining. Still raining. Madashine. Oh my goodness. The the wind took off every leaf off of them. Look at that. Wa! It’s still so windy. Look at the fence. The wind came the other direction this time. So, the fence did not fall on the garden. It kind of fell away from the garden. So, grateful for that. My pineapples all bent over. I won’t be able to give you a full tour because it is still raining, but just to give you an idea that the garden is not totally destroyed. It wasn’t totally destroyed, but quite a bit of damage on there. Um, there’s a lot of work that I’m going to have to do, guys. A lot. See, I have the oo the cauliflower and broccoli. Plenty of the plants up underneath there. So, those were saved. My June plum still standing. That is so great. Um, a grape vine is flat on the ground. These plants here don’t seem to be damaged at all. I think the the house um shielded these so there are no damages to these. Look how beautiful they are. Is as if no storm passed and just a little way from them everything like torn up. And these just look perfectly fine. Guys, it’s still raining heavily. Still raining heavily. Trying to change direction. But because of the wind, I have to be careful. Look at my pepper tree still. Just look at this. Look how beautiful that still is. Super grateful. My herb patch is as though no hurricane came through here. Guys, I am so grateful for your prayers. No one on this earth can’t tell me that prayer does not work. I believe it’s all of the prayers that went up for Farming on the Rocks and for Jamaica and for Marian and Steve and the kids. You guys are amazing. We thank you so much. We appreciate our prayer warriors. Thank you guys because I know it could have been way way way worse than it was. And look at this. I just saw one of my kids coming out to pick some skeleion to cook. She in there cooking fish. The grape vine is flat here, but it is alive. So my me and my son, we’re going to battle and put it up back to stand up. So that see flat on it side. Never mind. It is still alive. I’m going to harvest what I can from there and replenish my bags, my grow bags and my containers and plant again. Guys, I have some of my pots down low. Look at my rosemary. Unscathed, beautiful, and undamaged. Not damaged at all. Was worried about this peppermint. It’s perfectly fine. And I have some of my peppers, my bell peppers under here. Not damaged at all. Some things down here got damaged. But look at my ginger. Unscave. My banana plant in there got a beating and the other one there. But nothing that we can’t recover from. I thought I lost all of my corn. Look at this big scotch bonnet pepper. This scotch bonnet pepper plant was not armed at all. Look at the size of these peppers. Look at that. That’s how real scotch bonnet supposed to shape. Not like the one I showed you earlier that they sold me and tell me scotch bonnet. Look at that. Those are huge peppers. I still able to use my corn. They they got a beaten, but they’re still standing. I’m going to brace them up and allow them to fit up because the plants are alive and I’ll still be able to get here. I’m seeing my sour sap. See, it’s still raining, guys. Look at the mountain. We’re still getting rain the day after, guys. The wind was so heavy and scary last night. It was so scary. But we woke up to calm and we’re so grateful. And the rabbits are okay, guys. All of my babies okay. The wind did not affect the rabbits at all. They did not get wet to cover them down so they felt secure. It is raining like crazy. But I want to show you the sauce before I go guys. Believe it or not, a category 5 hurricane hit Jamaica directly. And what are those on my mango tree? God is awesome. My mangoes. Some of them fell off, but there are plenty mangoes. Thanks be to God on there. Plenty mangoes. Guys, thank you for your prayers. You pray with faith. Not one of my pomegranate blew off. Look at pomegranate. These coins, I’m going to just catch them up and allow them to fit up. Look at God. Just look at God’s goodness. Lost that banana. I’m going to just cut it off and allow it to spring back. He will. I’m going to prune off my um what’s that again? mulberry and it will come back as well. Strawberries, some of them are still here. See a few mangoes there. But guys, compared to what I am seeing on the news, I am so super grateful that we were spared and I hope that a persons who weren’t spared, they recover quickly. Look at my saucer. Look at that. Big and nice. Still on the plant. My pepper still there. We are so grateful and thankful and appreciative of God’s goodness and his mercy upon us. Oh boy. This is this is just awesome and we’re so grateful. I know have a lot of work and a lot of you looking at it like Mar you’re going to manage that. I’m going to take it one day at a time and and do it and get it done with your company. Let me make my way back up and out of this ring. Let me give you a quick peep at some of the babies. You’re so protective. I’m shiny. I’m not going to do them anything. I’m not going to do them anything. Okay. Yes. Look at them. All our babies are cream like their dad. So, they’re nice and snug and warm. All of them are warm and nice and dry. So, so Hey. Yes, ma’am. Okay, ma’am. I’ll close it. Okay. See? ain’t troubling your babies. They’re all dry. That this little one eating. Oh, and I have the time. This cannot live without the sun. I need to put it back out in a hurry. This is my peppermint. I’m going to prune off all of that and it will spring right back. It is suffering without the sun. The mint. Did I say thr? This is the time. Doing well so far. It’s suffering too, but not as much as the the mint. The peppermint is not liking the shade. And I have another rosemary right here. Doing amazing. My bunny rabbit in there. Show them that you’re dry. Say hello. Say hello. We’re doing fantastic. Well, let me show you the other babies. This is Charlotte, my big black girl. Sure. She probably run come around here to find out what on earth are you doing with my babies? Her babies are on this side. She has two whites. Hey, baby. Of course, you’re going to check the little whites are so stiny. And then she has a big looks like white and gray. Oh, that’s another white. Where are the others? So much for Oh, I said the little runt. There’s a big one. And there’s a big big one in there. Size difference is amazing. There’s a big big one. All dry and snuggly in there. I want to thank you guys so much for the support. Yes, we can rebuild from this. It’s going to take a lot. I’m going to have to buy some soil and I might have to replace some pots and I have enough seeds, I think, to get the garden going again. So, as you can see, the garden was not totally destroyed. I have some stuff that I need to put back where they should be, but we’re still getting some rain and so I’m going to wait a couple of days to recoup. Guys, thank you so much for the support. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I know I have you here to rebuild with me. Please stick around. It’s going to be rough for me. So, I need your support, okay? I need your hands to guide and help me get back this garden up and running. All right, thank you guys again and I’ll see you in the next one. Please subscribe if you’ve not already done so.
