Trying to figure out what these fruit/berries are. Took a picture of a tree they were nearby too but didn’t see any in the tree

    Those are some BIIIIIIG Strawberry Tree berries. They’re edible!!!

  2. The tree in the photo is a madrone. The fruit came from a strawberry tree, which may look more like a shrub unless it’s been trained into a tree form.

    Source: we have several of each in our yard. The fruit is edible, but not something you’d eat more than once, as alluded to in its Latin name.

    Arbutus unedo is the Latin name of the tree that produces this fruit.

    Fruit from strawberry tree. Edible but mild and underwhelming. If you squint you can taste notes of guava.
