The black pine in Priory Park was cordoned off last month over structural concerns and a report has now found that “structural failure of the tree is considered foreseeable”.

Following the report, which also found the tree to have “extensive decay” in its roots, Malvern District Council has announced that it will be felled.

Depending on the weather, it will be removed in the week commencing November 17.

A council spokesperson said: “Following a report from an arboriculture consultant, the tree was found to have extensive decay in the roots.

“Due to the size of the tree and its location near busy footpaths in the park, we cannot take the risk of it falling suddenly.

“The tree will be removed safely by our arboriculture consultant on the week commencing 17 November (this is dependent on weather).

“We are hoping to save parts of the wood from the tree to reuse, and we will also be planting a new tree of the same species to grow on for future generations to enjoy.”
