Should I empty my pond-less stream/waterfall over winter?
I currently run my stream 12 hours on 12 hours off. Over winter I am concerned about the frost damaging it. However, I don’t know whether it’s best to try (as best as I can) empty it and switch it off or keep it running 24/7?
Flowing water doesn’t freeze as easily as still water so I would personally choose to leave it on when heavy frosts are forecast then just run it as usual over more mild weather weeks.

Keep it running 24/7. It’s unlikely to freeze & the accessible water will be appreciated by bugs and beasties.

I knew an aquaculture guy who suggested a small aquarium heater when the weather went below freezing.
