Hapcheon County has announced the successful conclusion of the 4th Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival, which drew around 140,000 visitors during the blooming season.
Building on the popularity of spring azaleas and autumn silver grass, the county is now cultivating Mok hydrangeas as a signature summer attraction, positioning Hwangmaesan as a year-round floral destination.
With the creation of the Mok Hydrangea Garden, Hwangmaesan now offers distinct seasonal landscapes: azaleas in spring, Mok hydrangeas in summer, silver grass in autumn, and snowy vistas in winter.
The blooming season begins with hydrangeas in June, peaks from July through early October, and transitions to red foliage in late autumn. This extended color cycle has made the Mok hydrangea a key draw for summer and early fall tourism.
During the festival, the garden received enthusiastic praise from visitors, many of whom vowed to return in the summer to see the blooms. The success of this initiative has helped diversify Hwangmaesan’s tourism beyond autumn, transforming it into a cross-season destination that bridges summer and fall.
Hwangmaesan’s tourism infrastructure continues to grow, with forest campgrounds, private hostels, and glamping sites already available.
The upcoming Green Culture Experience Zone will further expand accommodations, while the completion of the Hapcheonho Interchange on the Hamyang–Ulsan Expressway in 2026 is expected to greatly improve accessibility strengthening Hwangmaesan’s reputation as a four-season travel destination.
