I was given a large spike plant this fall as the owner had had it for several years, but now it is big and unruly.
I live in zone 4, so this plant has been moved inside plenty of times.
Is there anything I can do with it? To I trim off lower leaves? I'd like some way to make it more stable and a bit smaller.

Any leaf which is not green does not have functioning chlorophyll left and therefore does not contribute to the plant and can be removed
