I wanted to share some images showing the development of my garden beds through the year.
We have been in this house for about four years now, and the garden was just lawn when we arrived. I've gradually created beds around patios and added plants, working from the house towards the end of the garden.
I find a couple of pots of annuals like Cosmos, with dahlias and tulips can add a lot of interest in key locations in the space.
The final picture shows the newest extension to the main bed. All I do to create the planting space is lay cardboard (which I get on freecycle) over the lawn, add a layer of compost (buy a bulk bag if you are doing this, as it is so much more economical). and then plant into the compost, cutting through the cardboard and lawn where I need to go deeper for planting shrubs. After one season the lawn below the cardboard is gone.

Fabulous
Beautiful, the winding path from the patio works really well.
It’s glorious!
Gorgeous layout!!
I love your hardscaping too. What stone did you use?
fennel one of my favourite plants.
Fabulous!
I’m also converting a lawn into a proper garden. 2 years in and it’s getting there. Yours is beautiful. I’m hoping I’ll see a completely different garden next year now that plants are getting established. Yours is inspiring 😍
