So we have been living in this house for 6 years and suddenly yesterday we found this hole come up when we were raking our leaves. I can see a big pipe and some metal wire lingering out. So definitely man made not a sink hole. But very unclear why it’s in middle of backyard.

I dunno, I would dig out construction papers, building permits anything that might show laying a pipe. If you do not have them, ask for them at your land registry office.
But i suppose something like this depends on where you are. In the eu you cant paint your house without making an official notification so… i dunno…
The size and type of pipe would help a lot
Sink hole. You prob have a disconnected downspout somewhere
If that pipe is 4 inches, you found an abandoned septic tank
Usually a tracer wire will follow a plastic pipe so it can located. Call a private locator maybe?
