My journey. Please no grief, as this is one of my very first succulents. I am honestly sharing my mistakes and asking for advice.
Pic 1: April 2024 – I transplanted it into a glass pot with no drainage – yes, bad. It spent the year in a southern facing window and grew incredibly.
Pics 2 & 3: March 2025 – I ask for advice because all the leaves turned purple and fell off. Took to advice to transplant. Watched several Euphorbia care videos, feeling confident.
Pic 4: March 2025 New terracotta pot, lots of drainage, two inches rough gravel on bottom, then Miraclegro cactus soil with 30% extra perlite.
Pic 5: September 4, 2025 – Over the summer, I would bring it outside for a few hours on nice, non windy days. I had gradually acclimated it to direct sun. It is in a western facing window.
Pics 6-8: top of pups turning dark, then almost black. No new growth on main stem & all pups.
I have a bamboo skewer in the soil, and it only is watered if the skewer is completely dry. Help!!!!

Hi! I think this is a rubra, which means the purple/reddish leaves are supposed to happen! And it’s happy. Overall your plant looks good! These go through growth phases so it may go a long time without really doing anything and then just explode with growth. The leaves also cycle so they can fall off and that doesn’t mean anything is wrong necessarily. It really seems like you are doing it all right so don’t stress yourself! Just get it as much light as you can and your watering schedule send to work for it just fine. Don’t repot too often because the shock to the roots takes a toll on it.
