My mother passed away unexpectedly and I don’t want to let this plant die. It is older than I am (I’m 50). I’ve never cared for a plant in my life, so if anyone can tell me the proper way to care for it. Water (how much/ofter) sunlight, etc. I would appreciate it.

Hi! I’m very sorry for your loss. This plant looks very healthy and well loved. It’ll need as much light as possible. If it starts to grow new parts very skinny that means it needs more light. Your window spot looks good, but keep in mind you can also buy a pretty cheap plant light or bulb that can fit into most fixtures if needed. I would recommend watering once a week or two until it runs from the bottom (if this pot has bottom drainage holes) into a little water catch saucer. If no bottom drainage or you are not sure, try with less water than you think and see how the plant responds. If it’s not enough it may look dehydrated or droop a bit. The plant uses water to stay upright and rigid so it’s a big clue! You can use a light dose of succulent or cactus fertilizer once in a while or lower doses of it fairly often. I’ll also answer any questions if you want! I have a few this big.

It is over 7 feet tall, and I’ve cut it back twice in my life when my mother moved homes. I am going to lock up the house for a month as I go take care of things. Will this plant be okay for that long or should I arrange for someone to come in and water it? Thank you for your response.
