In late August I decided to do my first Air Layer in a Mikawa Yatsubusa Japenese Maple.
I watched a few tutorials and decided to give it a try, since I love the mother plant and want an exact copy in style of it.
After now about 2 1/2 months the leaves started to discolour a bit. I read that this is a sign of roots growing, since the nutrition and sugar is concentrated on the roots instead of the leaves.
Does this look like a healthy and working air Layer for you?
If so, how long would you wait for me to take off the cup and cut it?

This would have been pretty late to start an air layer. Personally I would wrap this up in bubble wrap and cloth and leave this until next spring as frosts in Europe are not far off.
The only way to know is to look and see if there are roots.
This branch is so small you could have just taken cuttings, you didn’t really need to airlayer.
Was curious if anyone ever did mikawa airlayers, curious how it turns out
Those are almost small enough to take as cuttings. One of the biggest benefits of air layering is the ability to take something pretty substantial and get a ~5 year tree instantly.
