KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WCYB) — The Lynn View Community Center in Kingsport will soon look very different next year, as demolition is set to begin making way for a new school.

It allows us to not only replace two aging facilities from a design standpoint, but also to increase our capacity, said True.

Assistant Superintendent for Kingsport City Schools Andy True tells News 5’s Yannia Nordelo that this project is part of a larger effort to modernize their schools and prepare for the city’s expected growth.

This will be the largest redevelopment in the Lynn Garden area, so to be able to be a part of that, not only to provide an educational environment that will serve our students in current and future generations, but also really be a way that we can help redevelopment transform the Lynn Garden Community, said True.

A budget for the school has not been finalized, but the City of Kingsport will fund the new school.

Project Manager and lead architect Brian Alderson says he’s been working hard to ensure the new school is top-tier.

We spent a lot of time the last eight months looking at the site, looking at the building, developing a program just to make sure that we are doing what needs to be done to provide them with a facility that the city of Kingsport and City Kingsport Schools will be proud of long-term, said Alderson.

Take a look at the design plans. Once finished, the new facility will hold 750 students, grades K through 5.

Not only do you have school, but you also have all of the playfields and all the fields that are going to be able to be utilized by the community, so we’re trying to make sure on the front end that we are doing our due diligence, said Alderson.

As of now the next steps for this project is community information & feedback, working on a decision on use of outdoor spaces.

School leaders say they hope to have the school finished in May of 2029 and have students in the new school in the Fall of 2029.
