I've had this lucky bamboo talk for over a decade. Up until 2 years ago, it never grew any new leaves, then suddenly after a move to a new house, it started shooting off new leaves. I was stoked. Then a few weeks ago, the stalk started turning this yellow. I've literally done nothing new. It's been in water its entire entire life and it was getting same amount of sunlight. This week, I changed the water to distilled but it continues to yellow. What's going on and can it be saved? I'll be gutted if it dies, it was a sentimental gift.

The mysteries of these dracaena sanderiana. I’m surprised yours lasted that long. It appears it’s cannibalized the stalk in order to put out those new shoots.

You can always cut the individual shoots off and propagate them in water.

Do you add hydroponic fertilizer to the water? If you don’t fertilize the plant, it’s possible this is a nutrient deficiency, especially since it’s started growing new leaves.

You might need to buy some hydroponic fertilizer to feed this little guy (make sure it’s hydroponic, so it works in water)
