Hi Kim,
I have a lot going on in the garden, and with writing. I just launched the last book in the net zero series, and am starting book nine in The Adventures of Corbin Nash. I am also starting a new book genre, Cosmic Romantasy. The turnover from space opera into character driven stories has gone off without a hitch.
The temperature has gotten down to 34F with a light frost this morning. There is a hard freeze, 26F, in the forecast for November 10th. Not a problem for me. I’ll cover the cauliflower with plastic, and that is it. Everything else will do okay.
Tomorrow morning, I’ll take a third harvest from my radish bed. The change of temperature should start the turnip and rutabaga roots forming. The Pak Choi and Swiss Chard are looking good, just enough development to survive a frost, or light freeze. Deer have taken out all of my peas, and few purple cone flowers. The cabbages are starting to form heads, and the broccoli look like they can start forming heads any day. The cauliflower is a little slower. It is going to be close before they lose light with daylight dropping below 10 hours on November 28th.
Ariel has gone into her first adult molt, and is driving the Rhode Island Reds, Goldie, Trixie, and Bella, crazy. Moving closer to winter, and I am still gardening. LOL. I don’t know when to quit.
Arrrrrrr I was stuck at WORK during the livestream! Peace be to Nisha & fam & a aafe trip back! Wow so happy I don't have to winterize even up here in the 831 i will cover dormant beds with chopped leaves. Good question on squirrels, I never had one in my yard (I've seen them in town) but my parents yard in San Jose they eat everything. What a great Live!
