I built this tiny cabin and wondering what else you'd add to the inside for long term living? I made a video of the process if you want to see what I did.

Very nice. Go to your local corrugated steel supplier and ask if they sell “thirds”. It’s the top waste sheet used for packaging skids of corrugated steel. Most of them are 8’ long but sometime they will be 12’. Suppliers or roofers May have a stack laying around they’ll sell for a bargain.

Very nicely done. I wish to have a cabin in the woods on a plot of land myself. Off grid and self sufficient.

Love this. She’s beautiful. I envision a door there for your firewood box so you don’t have to go out. Can you please share more pics?

You can run a second pipe to improve internal air quality. Run it from the outside and run it along the stove exhaust, but don’t connect their airflow. By running next to the hot pipe, it will heat the air and cause it to flow out, which will draw in new air from the outside. You can experiment with where to put holes in the pipe in order to balance the temperature and airflow.

To keep down insects and pests, you can use mint, lemon, oregano, or basil, and some others that have strong aromas, which will keep away things that bite. Hang them or put them in the corners.

Are you going to cut windows? I imagine it won’t be super pleasant inside with them.

I’m pretty sure that stove pipes are not supposed to glow red. Over firing? Wrong material?

great job, you should be proud, not everyone  can do something like that

Why did not you remove the bark from the logs before you built the cabin?

And I’m over here struggling to figure out how to hang a drywall ceiling around crappy construction….. very very impressive!!

I dig it. I can tell it is true DYI. Looks square and solid— what one guy can actually get done in one season. With a proper corrugated metal roof it also looks like heavy rain and snow can be diverted properly. The stove is the lifesaver. There are lots of chinks/gaps in a rough construction like that, so drafts and the bitter cold are coming in. As well as mosquitoes and other insects through the warmer months. The foundation doesn’t appear to be of stone so it is going to rot and be vulnerable to vermin. Looks like you can barricade that door if you need to and that’s good. on a dark cold fall or winter weekend I would love knowing that it is there… solid shelter from the wind, the snow, the bears, vagrants, etc.. an escape. In the warmer months of the humidity, insects, and frequent damp, somewhat less comfortable. The nice thing is that overtime, you can refine until you find your sweet spot.

This is my dream! I seriously go to bed at night thinking about how I want to own land (with woods) and build my own cabin. Nothing too fancy, but enough to get away and read a book by a fire when I want. Great work!
