I just bought this Rainbow Bush from Home Depot to add to my Dwarf Jade's pot. What in the world is this green sludge they planted it in? I thought they wanted dryer soil?
I work in a nursery and let me tell you that succulents are surprisingly misunderstood for how popular they are. The succulents at my job are watered from the top, peat heavy soil, no grow lights, no real air flow. It is the saddest thing to see these beauties be so badly treated. Good thing you found him and are gonna give him a WAY better life than he’s had so far 🪴

Looks like swamp to me

Pleases be careful about any cross contamination. It’s probably some harmless algae/moss thing but you never know. Good luck.

I’m just saying that it could be something that even a small amount could start growing where ever the dirt goes. If it were me I would throw away all of the soil in that pot and wash off the plant including roots. I don’t know what it is I’m just thinking about how not to let it get anywhere else. I would also just keep an eye out if it grows again.

P. afra. Aka elephant bush. Not a jade. If the other plant is a non-variegated p. Afra it should be fine to share a pot. If it’s actually the jade (crassula) with smaller leaves, it does exist) it won’t be happy sharing a pot with this one.
These are savannah plants, they have very different needs to crassulas.

Just typical of big box stores to plant succulents in regular pure organic, dark soil. It’s so moist the soil is prone to algae and moss growth on top of the soil. Please replant this into a terra cotta container with drainage holes in a gritty inorganic soil with perlite added and even some course sand for good drainage, to prevent root rot. Good luck!
