Yesterday got two purple skullcup from a nursery. They don’t look good but I still got them because those were last two they had and I saw new sprout coming out at root.
How should I survive them?
Should I plant them now at full sun spot without any pruning, and maybe cut back before spring?

  1. You can plant them as-is. You can also trim them back while they are in the pot. Or both. If it were me, I’d plant them now(ish) – it’s a great time for planting native perennials. Once they are in the ground and have had a few months to grow roots, I’d probably trim the leggy bits off – they will regrow.

Put it in the ground. Fall is the best time to plant perennials, winter is next, spring is next (or second worst, depending on your point of view), and summer is worst.

If it was mine, I’d cut it back to the newer growth – right around the rim of the pot.

I’d plant it now. Wouldn’t cut it back. Let it build up its energy for spring and spread its roots. The extra green will help.

Place at angle in planting hole and use landscape staples to hold them down. Lightly cover with soil. Now you have more purple skullcap 😉
