Albert-Eden residents are invited to explore a network of edible, resilient and inspiring gardens when the Albert-Eden Sustainable Garden Trail returns from 22–23 November 2025.
Part of Auckland’s growing sustainable garden trail movement, the event showcases urban gardens that grow food, nurture birds and bees, recycle materials and connect neighbours to nature.
Attendees will be provided with a map to check out private and community gardens at their own pace and meet hosts who are happy to talk about composting, rain harvesting, natural pest control and other climate friendly practices.
Melena Myles, one of the garden hosts and a member of the Mt Albert Gardeners organising team, says it’s a great way for the community to learn more about sustainable living.
“We want to invite locals to come on the trail and get motivated themselves to maximise their own garden plots. It’s a great lineup of inspiring gardens, both big and small, and we look forward to opening up our own gardens to highlight what can be done.
You will get to talk to owners, meet other gardeners, come away with cuttings, plants, advice and hopefully some inspiration to transform your own space.”
Why this garden trail matters
The garden trail demonstrates how small, neighbourhoods scale actions which contribute to the Albert-Eden Local Board’s vision for a low-carbon, sustainable community.
Gardeners will share tips on reducing waste, reusing materials and building soil health, aligning with the Sustainable Garden Trails’ aim to recycle and create circular economies.
Backed by the Albert-Eden Local Board and Eco Neighbourhoods programme
The trail is proudly supported and funded by the Albert-Eden Local Board through its Eco Neighbourhoods programme. In short, the trail is a tangible example of the board’s climate plan strategy in action.
Eco Neighbourhoods is a local board initiative that connects likeminded neighbours so they can learn how to live more lightly, from growing and buying local food to improving energy efficiency and composting.
New Eco Neighbourhood groups currently receive up to $1000 to support their agreed activities. To form a group, at least six households need to participate. Residents in Albert-Eden and Puketāpapa can contact the Eco Neighbourhoods facilitator (econeighbourhoods@gmail.com) to register.
