CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Housing Authority’s second local community garden, this on Vine Circle, is coming to life for residents.
Cullman Housing Authority Executive Director Marquisha Griffin said this is the second community garden, following the success of the first garden on Logan Street.
“Our second community garden planting launched this summer at the Cullman Housing Authority’s Hilltop Community Center, located at 1545 Vine Circle in Cullman,” Griffin said. “The first garden was such a positive experience; it brought residents together, encouraged healthy eating and created a sense of pride and ownership in the community. Because of that success, we wanted to expand the opportunity for more residents to enjoy gardening, learn new skills, and connect with their neighbors.”
Griffin shared that the garden goes far beyond planting vegetables; it’s about growing community.
“Residents work together, share recipes, teach one another and take home fresh produce they helped cultivate,” Griffin said. “It also provides an outlet for youth to learn about nutrition, teamwork and sustainability. It’s amazing to see how something as simple as a garden can help strengthen relationships, promote wellness and beautify our neighborhoods.”
The CHA is proud to partner with Lowe’s, Cullman County Master Gardeners and volunteers who have helped bring this project to life.
“Our goal is to continue expanding these efforts and creating more spaces that empower residents to take part in shaping their community,” Griffin said. “We welcome volunteers, community partners and local organizations who want to lend a hand, whether that’s donating supplies, offering gardening tips or simply coming out to plant alongside residents.”
The CHA posted on social media: “Exciting things are growing at Cullman Housing Authority! Our second community garden, led by Sonya Nail and several dedicated residents, is coming to life. Together, they’re creating a space that not only provides fresh vegetables and herbs but also strengthens community connections and promotes healthy living. We can’t wait to watch this garden, and our residents continue to flourish!”
