Im afraid this lovely assassin dude will be killed by the still-at- large, evil Chinese praying mantis if I relocate the dude to my flower garden. Am I right?

The strong will survive. If the Chinese mantis catches it, then maybe, but still, has to be caught to be eaten. I think this all the time as I watch ambush bugs (Phymata spp) in my garden. Sometimes they eat flies, sometimes bees, sometimes butterflies. But a Phymata has to eat too. Even a Chinese mantis has to eat unless you catch it and dispatch it.

I take a scissor into the garden for the Chinese mantis and pretend I’m Sweeney Todd.

It will certainly die if you don’t release it.

Many things can eat it. Just let it go free in your garden. Let it be what it is.

Maybe. But it would want to be in the garden if it could talk, I’m sure

Where is this assassin bug? Is there a reason you want to relocate it? It looks like it’s doing fine where it is.
I’ve relocated native insect/plant species when I know their habitat is going to be destroyed, so I get it. If it’s not going to be destroyed I’d just leave it where it is.

Wheel bug. Be careful handling it as their sting is supposed to be more painful than that of a wasp.

The first step is to eradicate non-native Asian praying mantis from your garden. They are voracious eaters, much more so than our native mantises. They are also out competing and eating native mantises. Asian mantises will decimate endangered bees, and they will eat hummingbirds.
