Okay for context, I remember vaguely my mother growing an avocado seed when I was a kid so I tried to do the same from memory. In February I got this guy and stuck some toothpicks in it and put it on top of a glass of water. After about 3 months of nothing, finally I got a single root and the toothpicks were rotting away so I transfered it to soil(potting mix+orchid bark), and accidentally broke off that root (oopsies) so for a bit it was just sitting on top. As of now, the roots are doing well (I can see them through the cup) i think anyway. But is it normal for the stem to be that silvery color? should I be doing something different? It's in a south facing windows on the sill if that matters?

I know nothing about the silver color, but it’s growing AND smiling at you, so I feel like you’re not doing terrible 😃
Yes
It’s got a lil smiley face on the pip 🙂
Looks like mine did! If you want it to thrive and possibly get rid of the silver color I’d recommend adding a humidifier. Or letting Avacado live in the bathroom for awhile.
I think the silver is like a sort of wax to protect new plant growth
Mine before I accidentally

broke it. I think the color is normal.
Success! Congratulations! It’s an avocado tree!! They make such pretty plants. In 15 years you could have fruit!
Yes. Totally normal
Oh wonderful! This gives me a smile. 😊 during the 70’s & 80’s, whenever I had avocados, I sprouted the seed and potted them up for gifts. I found the seeds recently didn’t sprout for me. I sure hope you keep this seedling going and have a long life with your avocado tree!
yes, just dont eat it
I think it’s normal for the stem to have that color. I’ve been growing avocados for years and usually give them as gifts but I just started a new one from a Spanish avocado. I’m excited to see if there’s a big difference.
