Here in the PNW we had a terrible problem with slugs in our veggie garden. Then garter snakes started appearing. Over 2-3 years these snakes became common all over our yard and the slugs essentially disappeared. I looked up our variety of snake up and found they’re [Northwestern garter snakes](https://www.growingwithnature.org/garter-snakes/) that primarily eat slugs but will also consume earthworms and small amphibians. Then I understood why the little frogs that lived in a drainage ditch close by also disappeared.
