The bf and I were just doin some last minute shoppin in Lowes the other day and I saw there was this decently priced BMF on the markdown shelf. So I grabbed it without looking too much into it.

Got home and while I was checking it for pests and such I noticed spots of green variegation on the leaves. It’s crazy hard to get in a photo/video but I did my best to get good angles of the better leaves. Every leaf has SOME variegation, mostly around where the petiole meets the leaf but there are a couple leaves with var around the midrib area. There’s also variegation on a some of the petioles continuing to the stem. Unfortunately I can’t get a good look at the majority of the stem, without cutting into the petioles some, so it’s hard to tell the stem var on much of the plant.

Maybe I can get some extra opinions on the plant and if it would probably be a waste to attempt chopping and propping. Either way, for just $10 I can’t complain too much.

Let it keep growing and see if whatever you think is there is stable.

That’s a burle Marx flame. Not super rare, I have one. But they are gorgeous when they fenestrate. Make sure it gets a lot of light! As far as the stem, it’s probably not varigated but you shall see!

Imagine getting the worlds first green on green BMF for $10.00 on the clearance rack at Lowe’s.

    I’m so jealous!

See what happens! I can see what you’re talking about and it may or may not be stable, I have a BMF that threw a leaf with a white patch in it, I got excited and it hasn’t done it since lol but I wouldn’t chop it or anything, they’re v hard to root so you could end up killing the leaves showing the different colouring. I’d just let it grow and see how it matures if I was you!

looks like a bit of sport. I would let it grow a bit under some really good lighting before chop and prop.

But like.. keep in mind that there are all kinds of variegated versions of BMF that are currently being tissue cultured in labs rn. I’ve seen a few Aurea, GoG, Albo, even a mint version. Not widely available yet, but I guess they’ll be released to the market strategically to make the most money. So… you may have something cool. But it’s not like a lottery jackpot.

I would say probably not.. some sunburn though

Mine is doing the same thing but it’s been mostly the same shade since I got it. My guess is possibly too much or not enough sun. Like others have said keep it with lots of light and wait and see.

I had ONE BMF in my hands from Lowe’s and accidentally put it back and checked out without it and I’ve thought about her every day since.
