Was on a walk and saw this big chunk missing from this mammoth. Curious on theories of what caused it, and what might become of it.

    It’s got rot in the core of the trunk.
    Considering how close it is to buildings and a street, it should be taken down asap.

    Who ever did this, did a horrible job!

    This is wild. That knot in the middle might be a clue that this was once a double trunk leader with a poor union. The rougher area of the wound could maybe be a sign that this side of the union failed. Then maybe someone took the term “tree surgery” a bit too far when they cleaned up. It’s definitely the sort of thing I would spend too much time exploring on Google maps, trying to piece together a timeline.
