It looks kinda weird too. Wondering when I should harvest?

No. It’s still going. I’ve let mine go to seed for next season. Gonna do more than just one. Usually 6 inches is when I cut them down

Mine will get fat like that and then stretch themselves out into the shape you see in stores. Definitely not ready to harvest.

It’s very case by case, and variety specific. Some want to be picked bigger or smaller. That might already be too woody. You’ll need to feel these things out to your personal preference and what varieties suit you best.

I’d pick it now, record the size, and the palatability with how you prepared it. I like thinner, slender varieties from Louisiana personally. The stout/red hill country red makes too tough of a skin too early in my opinion, but the seed pods are better than slender ones.

I find that late season fat okra pods are typically pretty tough, so I would say it depends on how old the plant is. And agree about just picking it and trying it. They only get worse…

It seems to me like mine have already given up on length when they get like that and are going all in on seed development. I let them dry out on the plant and then cut them for seeds before they split

    Too big for what?

If you’re not sure if it’s time to pick you should pick it, taste it, then decide.

Use it as seeds for next year
