Should I just cut the stake off at the base? Try to pull it out? Leave it as is?
It's about ~2 years old/~1.5 metres tall and is endemic to my region (Perth, Western Australia). When I planted it in the ground ~8 months ago, the stake felt pretty solid and I didn't want to mess with the roots so soon after planting, so I figured after winter I'd give it another go. Well, when I pull/push on it now, it feels like the whole tree is bending with it.
Also, are the marks from the nursery ties really bad?
Also, how do these roots look? Girdled or okay? Is it possible to tell without digging back?
Since it's not a super well-known species outside of Perth, I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info about it. Any advice would be awesome.
