This is a good example of a method of asexual propagation that plants do naturally that we call layering. When a stem comes in contact with soil, it can stimulate root growth. It’s common on plants like strawberry.
When you layer on purpose, you usually keep the parent plant and the baby plant attached until the baby plant has established roots, then you can cut it off. This keeps the parent plant healthy and happy.
You could continue to layer this stem by pinning the stem down into the soil, where the roots are already starting. Then you leave it for a few months and let it do its thing.
Or I suppose you could take a cutting but idk, I wouldn’t. You could also just leave it.
