Found this white stuff all over my palm tree. I posted what it looks like when I squish it. Can anyone help me find out what is in it and how to combat it? Located in Houston Tx. TIA

    Infestation. Maybe Mealybugs.

I’d get some wet soapy paper towel & wipe a load off then spray with insecticide.

We’ve found the mother hive of the world’s mealy bugs!

I honestly can say I’ve never seen an infestation this bad.

The white spots on the sago palm are most likely a pest known as cycad aulacaspis scale, also referred to as Asian cycad scale. This insect is a common and damaging pest for sago palms and other cycads. The insects appear as small, white, cottony-looking flecks that can densely cover the leaves, making the plant look as if it is covered in snow. The larger, roundish scales are females, while the smaller ones are males. These insects feed on the plant’s sap, which can cause significant damage and, if left untreated, can lead to the decline or death of the plant.

To manage an infestation, you can wash the plant with a vigorous spray of water to remove scales, and repeated treatments with horticultural oils or approved systemic insecticides may be necessary.

I posted in plantclinic and got some pretty good information until the post got removed for some reason. Apparently it’s Asian Cycad Scale and it’s taken the life of many sago palms in Florida. There’s other of these types of plants in my neighborhood I hope they don’t get affected by it. I guess this scale has made its way all the way to Houston. I have already removed the fronds that were really bad and sprayed the rest of it with hydrogen peroxide and neem oil.

Clean it off with rubbing alcohol or soapy water, apply Neem oil at night. Neem oil can make the leaves sensitive to sunlight, so only apply at night and don’t apply daily.
