Hello,

I would like to repot my monsteras (it's 2 cuttings in one pot). I don't like the pot they are in and the dirt feels very compacted and dry, not very nutrient, I would like to give them a better soil.

I've fetched some pots I have, but I'm debating about size. Should I go really big since they are 2, to allow them to grow more ?

Does monsteras like wide or tall better, or it doesn't matter ?

What size would you suggest ?

Thanks in advance !

Monsteras prefer to have more roots than soil in the pot and they like it very chunky. Take the roots out of the pot and pick the new one to be just a little bit bigger than the root ball. I’d personally split them, but that’s your call.

And don’t forget to continue providing them with something to climb on + they are light lovers. Move them somewhere with more light, as they look a little bit leggy.

All of your pots are far too big IMO I would separate your two plants into two distinct plants and plant each into a 5 or 6 inch plastic nursery pot (ideally clear if you have access to them). Monstera love to be root bound so keep that in mind

I never understand the “which size” question. I would take the biggest one and let it grow. In nature no one is asking how much space they need.

Pick the pot size based on the root ball. Examine the roots and choose from there.

Go smaller. The pot should only be 2” bigger than the root ball.

Depends on how the roots look. I’ve heard and read that they like to be a little root bound. Only repot once ur watering too often to keep up with its needs. And only going up 2in. In pot size from the last

Honestly, you could just take the plant out and put some aroid mix in the bottom and then plop it back in the same pot.

I would def put each in their own pot

Keep it in the same pot, change the soil, and find a cover pot

  10. Id that’s the only options you have I would just take it out of its current pot, replace the soil with a chinky aroid type mix and replant it. If you go significantly larger (like I mistakenly did) than the root ball then be prepared for root problems, stunted growth, and you might lose some of the lower leaves as the plant will focus its energy on growing more roots to fill out the pot.

What does the root ball look like currently?

It entirely depends on how big the root ball is. I believe someone said it before but the pot should only be about 2-4 inches bigger than the root ball

Thanks all for your thoughts ! I could not entangle the two so I let them together but I used a smaller pot I had, just a little bigger from the one they were in, but round. =)
