Nambour’s Nicola Booth has turned her lifelong passion for herbs and aromatic plants into a flourishing local venture, Nic’s Herbs, supplying organically grown and rare varieties to the Sunshine Coast community.

Growing herbs and aromatic plants has always been a passion for Nambour’s Nicola Booth. After 20 years in the industry, beginning with studying Organic Horticultural Production, she has the experience and knowledge to produce rare, interesting and organically grown herbs for the local market.

“Herbs and aromatic plants are so interesting to grow and there’s such a wide variety of uses for herbs, from culinary to health and wellbeing. They are a wonderful addition in the garden and attract many pollinators and beneficial insects,” Nicola said.

An avid seed collector for many years, Nicola has amassed species originating in Europe and America, as well as indigenous species.

“The plants that originate from other countries can be challenging to grow, which makes growing them here even more rewarding,” she said.

Nicola currently sells her herbs, (Nic’s Herbs) at Health Beat in Nambour Plaza and at Fairhill Native Nursery and Botanical Gardens.

On Saturday the 8th of November she will be offering her plants for sale at a pop up shop at 45 David street, Nambour (see ad on this page for details).

Nicola also runs The Palmwoods Harvest Swap in the Uniting Church hall each month.

“Our harvest swap is a wonderful community gathering of like minded people on the second Sunday of each month,” Nicola said.

“There are usually around 30 of us and we get together to swap homegrown and homemade produce and gardening related items and discuss, enthusiastically, gardening and growing food.”

• The harvest swap is a free event held between 9am to 11am. You can find out more about it on their Facebook page.
