Tree was cut down around 18 months ago due to it presenting a danger to the building. Now noticing these mushrooms growing up from what I assume are the dead / dying root system.

Keen for any advice / suggestions on what to do here? Should I be worried about this / are these fun-guys (sorry) or should they be removed?

Also concerned about doggos in the close / local wildlife eating something that might make them ill.

It’s a communal back garden in a Glasgow tenement so getting owners together to fund the stump removal will be nearly impossible.

Non-expert here. It’s very difficult to identify fungi from a photo. The British Mycological Society can help with identification, and they have a website. Might be the best place to start.

The fungus is just doing its job, leave well alone.

Dogs cats and most other wildlife just ignore fungi and they pose no real danger to them.

Let nature be nature and admire the beauty of the plants and the whole system that recycles everything.

Good soil, full of mycelium. The part you see above ground is just the fruiting part, most of the fungus is in the soil, so you’re really not getting rid of it even if you wanted to. Just enjoy it, and let nature do its thing.

I have these growing o dead stumps they are very good to have for the soil etc snd they only last a day or two before dying just let them do their thing.

Enjoy it! That looks beautiful and impressive.

  6. Cool pic! Love how it follows the roots.

Perhaps unrelated, but can any Mycologist/Psycologist explain to my why **I know** I should find this beautiful but it instead physically repulses me? Bit disappointed in myself.

Thanks everyone for the kind replies!

Great to know it’s perfectly normal and it’s not going to make any animals ill. I’ll leave it be and appreciate nature doing its thing

Looks like cancer. If it were me, I’d dig it up, burn and salt the soil.
