My small lawn in zone 6b
If you can believe it, this was pretty much all dead in July (pic 3). I aerated (by hand with a power drill lo l) top dressed with 1/2" 50/50 topsoil and compost, overseeded with TTTF, fertilized with nitrogen and watered very consistently. I sharpened my mower blades which I think made a big difference as well.
I plan to hit it once more with winterizing fertilizer next week and I've tapered off watering to 1 deep water per week. In a month it will probably be dormant but I'm hoping for a great spring. It's not 100% perfect yet but by this time next year I think it will be.
Thanks to everyone for your advice, the cool season guide, and the positive vibes around here.

Upvote for the manual aerating with a drill lol never thought to do that but it clearly worked
Looks a hundred times better
Dog! This is a HUGE improvement! Crack a beer and pat yourself on the fucking back! This time next year if you do your weed control and fertilizer apps right your shits gonna be MINT!
It is gorgeous š„° and you are correct in being proud.

What kind of bit did you use to manually aerate?
