Old Japanese Garden In The UK



Featured on BBC Gardeners World in early 2024, I had the great pleasure of visiting this superb garden myself.
The garden itself is private, always has been and will be for the foreseeable future. So this video is very much a rare and valuable insight into a secret part of the English countryside.
Designed and built by Japanese master gardeners over a century ago, this stunning garden in Hertfordshire, England, has been resurrected in the past few years by its new owners Frazer and Albeiro.
Using rock, lanterns and buildings imported from Japan in the early 1900’s, the garden features a huge number of mature trees that are now of great age.
There are so many rooms and vistas to enjoy from every angle as you walk around.
There is such a huge amount of history and intrigue regarding the building of the garden and items within it, as well as its history down the years that it would require a book, or at least a much more detailed film than this.

    Really beautiful garden. JM´s growing naturally is very pleasing for the eye. They are fantastisk as bonsai, but i wish more in the world of bonsai would grow them more to the natural side.

    Japanese gardens take a lot of work to maintain and they're pretty close here. Not sure about the rather twee blue torii gate, but hey most oldywonks dropping by won't care!

    if this is the Garden i'm thinking of, i live in a town close to this and have always wished to see what it looked like, so thank you for sharing!
    It was so much better than i expected, truly a incredible sight to behold.
    and as a bonsai and Japanese garden enthusiast this is very inspirational, it makes me want to tear my garden apart and build my own.
