I only have one part of this plant, the pod.
It came from a tree at my friend’s house, planted by a previous owner. This is in Los Angeles.
Research tells me it is probably part of the Inga genus, but it is not an ice cream bean. I like what I've read about trees from the Inga genus, they grow quickly and are nitrogen fixing. Whatever it is, it’s surely underripe. It was very difficult to crack down the seam and open.
The inner flesh is spongy and easily injured like a white mushroom, but it smells like cucumber. And look at the size of these seeds!
I took this home, cracked it open, and felt compelled to come to reddit – but guys, I don’t have pictures of the tree. I’m sorry!
I have searched “inga” with fitting adjectives but nothing comes close to the appearance of these pods.

These fruits grow singularly, as opposed to in a bunch.
Going with [*Castanospermum australe*](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sca_esv=8fe6cc88df9a283f&hl=en-gb&sxsrf=AE3TifNDa0CgButHBo_fc8XKw-z9UtazGg:1761273131182&udm=2&fbs=AIIjpHz30rPMyW-0vSP0k1VTNmO_kCOARpjPjQRkBWH2HwUIz5XUSIJvSK0oms7XOxizDlnr_4ZY5sR6MhoHu3TFlth2rG29N-ZS27Ewg3pWkHJuKnhNmmrfF6bzjXx0gOJYfAyOcI_ne0jJ4k81yz9EdjkRMD_Siw9VM6aGUi4XEXISK6-SwPK8mFDPc1hIIqQGdN98eKE_5jilQbZSAMRfnLCMH9jyg5nqOhTTodzB4278JiizAhk&q=castanospermum+pods&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwior9ja5buQAxWGpIkEHXL0AqYQtKgLegQIEhAB&biw=430&bih=739&dpr=3), Cape chestnut. California has many South African ornamentals due to the shared similarities of their Mediterranean type climates.
Probably the food for dinosaurs 😂
