Hi, guys. This tree grows over our fence and drops its berries in our yard (it seems to be some kind of blackberry). I need to know what plant it is because my puppy keeps eating them off the ground. We try to keep the grass clean, but it’s almost impossible. Thanks in advance.

Mulberry, but I don’t know the specific variety.

Definitely a mulberry. I’d assume you’re in the Southern Hemisphere?

If it’s mulberry (probably is), then it’s not toxic for dogs, though they can overdo it and end up with diarrhea and/or vomiting. Good time to practice “drop it” in between the ones your puppy manages to eat lol.

Mulberries – so yummy and they make great pies too =)

They will stain everything they touch – and the birds love them – and then poop the same all over the place.

Late in the season they will start to ferment and you will find drunk animals laying on the ground around the tree.

Hello, I find your neighbor’s tree relevant to my interests.

Depending on your local laws, you might be able to trim anything that overhangs your property.

I know by me we’re allowed to trim any vegetation from our neighbors that crosses over the property line. Within reason and as long as it doesn’t kill the plant.

There are several Mulberry trees overhanging the sidewalk I hike, they cover the whole sidewalk and get on your shoes. It would be neighborly for the owners to at least sweep them off. The black ones are ripe and so good.

Your puppy wants to eat them because they are delicious.

Tasty berries. Messy tree. Too messy for my yard and house.

I would cut down branches hanging over your yard. You don’t need mess, purple poop or drunk critters. You can legally do that.
