I don’t think it would kill it, but duct tape is pretty strong adhesive to be using on the walls. Even painters tape a has a warning not to leave on for more than 2 weeks
I’d get a stick from outside and prop it up personally but i think the plant should be fine 🙂
monsieurninja
won’t kill it but gosh this is ugly haha, also i’d suggest a pole rather than tape, since the plant will grow
chile-plz
Try getting those thick sticks from the garden shop. Menards also had them in their garden center of you live near one.
Complete_Leg_859
Prob not but it’ll restrict it from growing and may become distorted. Better off using a stake

Why do people buy plants and then not let them grow like plants?
You’re gonna rip the paint off your wall, and your plant is not happy. Just get a plant that is suitable for your space.

Better to chop and prop

You can also get that green plant Velcro with the stick so it doesn’t hurt the stem.

Man wtf
It’s like putting cuffs on a person and not letting him to move from the wall!
dothesehidemythunder
Your plant needs more light and this looks crappy. Why buy a plant if you’re just doing this to it?
sosobabou
ZZ plants start to droop at they mature, that’s literally just what they do. If you think it’s ugly, rehome the plant, bamboo sticks on every stem will be ugly, and not good for the plant. Otherwise, give it more space and let it do its thing!
Mel-B_50
The plant is meant to lean over as it grows. You are preventing the base and roots from strengthening. It truly needs to be in an appropriate spot with more light or rehomed.
Automatic_Role_6398
He definitely needs more light if you can. No won’t kill him
agokathalogical
I hope u didn’t tape the plant directly it won’t be able to grow!

This looks like some sort of torture tbh.

It’s losing leaves because it needs more light, and the tape ensures it never gets it. I have one of these and put it directly in the window. It’s now 8ft tall with full leaves
FlounderKind8267
I would recommend a support pole, or at the very least not using duct tape. ZZs dont necessarily like being tied down though
GABAplex
Dunno but I assume if you leave it you’ll find out 😂 😂 😂 😂
thelittleblackcat_
i’d chop and prop to have more plant
KalaFlowers
I’d be more worried about your wall

Has this been posted before? Because I’ve certainly seen similar.
It’s natural for ZZ to bend over.
tittysoprano
ZZ Plants bend as they grow OP, please take the tape off and let the plant flop like it’s meant to 🥲

No_Bar1462
you should tie it to the rest of the plant not the wall lol maybe not with tape
Lillithium_Dust
Oh yah, this definitely will most likely kill it eventually. Horizontal stripe nymphs cannot resist plants if you do this, even if you keep them inside where it’s “safe”. If you want to train that plant up the wall you need to place the tape vertically all along the stem. Horizontal stripe nymphs cannot stand vertical stripes. It’s your safest bet.
Edit: oops… How is this not r/houseplantcirclejerk??
YdidUMove
Hang an eye hook from the ceiling, tie a string to your plant and the other end to a counterweight

Guys, I climbed a tree and found a stick and tied it to the branch like most of you said. Is this better?
