Root areas got sun-damaged so have no leaves, but the older parts are perfectly healthy, and some evening springing new strings can i straight up just cut below the damage and stick the new end in soil?? Break into smaller pieces to create more strings? I know its a lot of questions, links to resources and best places to look for info would be great too!

I would cut at the edge of the bed because there will be at least 2 out of 3 knots in contact with the earth.
Wrap the strand on top of soil. Lightly add new soil on top, dampen soil, cover pot to create humidity. You’ll grow new ones soon.
